You’ve scheduled your cabinet refinishing project with Willow & Wick — congratulations! You’re about to experience one of the most impactful kitchen transformations available to homeowners in Mansfield, Columbus, Lexington, Ontario, Delaware, Dublin, and Powell, Ohio. Here’s how to prepare so everything goes smoothly.
Before the Crew Arrives
1. Clear Out Your Cabinets
Remove everything from your cabinets and drawers — dishes, food, small appliances, and anything stored inside. This makes it easier for our team to remove doors and drawers quickly and ensures nothing gets damaged during the process.
2. Clear the Countertops
Remove all small appliances, décor, and items from your countertops. Our team will be covering and protecting your countertops as part of our “Creating the Bubble” process, but starting with clear surfaces speeds things up considerably.
3. Make Arrangements for Pets
While our low VOC products are much safer than traditional paints, we recommend keeping pets out of the kitchen work area during the project. Consider arranging for pets to stay in another part of the home or with a friend or family member.
4. Plan for Limited Kitchen Access
During the on-site phase of your project, your kitchen will be partially inaccessible. Plan meals in advance — think slow cooker meals, takeout, or using a secondary kitchen space. Most on-site work is completed within 2–3 days.
What to Expect During the Project
Our team will handle everything from start to finish. Here’s a quick overview of what happens:
- 📦 Day 1: Doors and drawers are removed and labeled. The kitchen is cleaned, degreased, and “the bubble” is created — your entire kitchen is covered and protected.
- 🔧 Days 1–2: Cabinet boxes are sanded, primed, filled, and spray-finished with multiple coats of industrial-grade lacquer.
- 🚚 Shop Days: Doors and drawers go to our shop for the same refinishing process. You have access to your kitchen during this time.
- 🏠 Install Day: Doors and drawers return, hardware is installed, everything is leveled and adjusted.
- ✅ Final Walk-Through: We do a thorough quality check with you and leave you with care instructions and your 1-year warranty.
After the Project: Caring for Your New Finish
Your new finish needs a short cure time before it reaches full hardness. We recommend:
- Wait 24–48 hours before cleaning cabinet surfaces
- Use only soft cloths and mild dish soap — no abrasive cleaners
- Avoid hanging wet towels on cabinet doors
- Use door bumpers (we install these) to prevent impact damage
